Gabrielle Civil

 

Gabrielle Civil is a black feminist performance artist, poet, and writer, originally from Detroit, MI. She has premiered over fifty original performances, most recently My San Francisco (2024) and Black Weirdo School (Pop Up Critique) (2023), and her performance videos and stills have been exhibited internationally and online. Her latest performance memoir, In & Out of Place (2024), encompasses her time making art as a Fulbright Fellow in Mexico. Her writing also appears in New Daughters of Africa, Kitchen Table Translation, Migrating Pedagogies, Dance/Notes and A Mouth Holds Many Things. She teaches at the California Institute of the Arts. The aim of her work is to open up space.
